Academic Exploration

Join our academic colleges for a lively discussion on a trending topic, and get to know some of Mason’s professors.

Hosted by: Mason’s Academic Colleges & Schools

INSTRUCTIONS: There are two, 20 minute Academic Exploration sessions for students to attend as an option during their Student Experience Rotations portion of the On-Campus Orientation. Students can choose to attend both, one or the other, or none at all in favor of other presentations. Information on each is below:

3:50-4:10pm — Presentation 1 will include a moderated panel of 2-3 faculty discussing their personal, their program’s or their college’s opportunities for first-year students to engage with specific topics, interesting coursework not limited to majors, research, study abroad, internships or other high-impact opportunities. Each faculty member will be given time to share the work they’re doing, what gets them up in the morning, and what they like best about working with new students to Mason.

4:15-4:35pm — Presentation 2 will be a bit different, in case some students elect to stay for both halves. This half will be a moderated Q&A that will summarize the first half, will include further questions and/or explanation of all of the above, but also will mainly be a Q&A around ‘what your professors wish you knew when starting college’.
